Uday is the Founder & Director of AI Policy Labs and Co-Founder and Executive President of Global Policy Insights, a centrist policy think tank. He combines leadership and experience in technology and policy with a deep interest and understanding of emerging technologies and their impact on policy and governance. He also heads the Commonwealth Project at GPI as the Chair. The first event on the Commonwealth that Uday convened in 2018 December was mentioned in the UK Parliamentary Question Hour on International Trade. He led a conference in Sep 2020 as the Chair & Convener bringing together 70 thought leaders discussing AI and Emerging Technologies for Youth and The Commonwealth. He holds a Masters in Computer Science from Oxfordbrookes University, the UK a Bachelors in Computer Technology from Nagpur University, India, and is pursuing a Development, Technology and Innovation MPA from University College London(UCL).

Uday Nagaraju

Swati is currently heading the programmes and partnerships at the AI Policy Labs. Prior to joining here, Swati has worked at United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI). She was the lead analyst for all economic and policy matters related to Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) & New Development Bank (NDB) at the Multilateral Institutions Division of Ministry of Finance, Government of India. Swati has notable experience of working on international policy issues including on finance, climate change and sustainable development. She has been instrumental in forming government views and represented at various international negotiations including the UNFCCC, Montreal Protocol and the meetings of the Board of MDBs. She is an economist by background and is also a member of the Government Blockchain Association. Swati has co-authored climate change and energy chapter at the Economic Survey of India and has published numerous articles online. She was awarded fellowship by the Netherlands Government in 2015 to pursue executive programme on climate policy and clean energy.

Elizaveta holds a BA in International Relations and War Studies from King's College London and MA in International Affairs at the Graduate Institute in Geneva, Switzerland. She previously worked with the UN Office in Vienna and is currently engaged in the field of security sector governance, based in Geneva. Her international background in upbringing and studies helped Elizaveta develop a passion for security and diplomacy, with specific interest in conflict prevention and mediation, with a focus on Europe and Asia.

Sreeram is an EPSRC funded PhD scholar at University of Exeter, working on cost-effective manufacturing techniques of Perovskite solar cells. Prior to that he received Commonwealth Shared Scholarship from DFID (Department for International Federation), UK, for pursuing his Masters in Renewable Energy engineering. He also holds a B-Tech degree from CUSAT in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. He has worked with various startups and NGOs in the clean energy sector.

Shilpita completed her Master’s in Governance, Development, and Public Policy at Institute of Development Studies at the University of Sussex in 2020. She pursued her graduation in Agricultural Science and also a Masters in Business Administration from India. She worked for corporations like Facebook, Newschecker, and for a short stint in the fertilizer industry. Her recent work was on how the lack of AI governance is impacting the digital trade agreements between major AI economies and developing countries. Presently, she is working on the role of state and business in framing regulatory policies for platform firms. She was also instrumental in implementing Mobile Fertilizer Monitoring System (mFMS) in India, and in framing community operation guidelines for a few platform firms.

He deliberated on AI’s role in organisations, Change and People Analytics previously. He completed his BA in Politics and International Relations from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), where he focused on specialising in South Asian Domestic and Foreign affairs. His research interests include Security Studies, conflict and International Developmental Economics across the globe.

Nirmala has extensive experience of public service and served as an advisor to a range of bodies including the UK Audit Commission and the UK Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM). Nirmala was elected Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences in 2003 and awarded an OBE for services to scholarship in Queen’s honours 2011. She is currently Honorary Fellow of Lucy Cavendish College, University of Cambridge, a member of Governing Body of Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance and a Trustee of United World Schools. She has published extensively in the field of urban politics and some of her books include Reshaping City Governance; Cities in Transition; Governing London; and Transforming Local Political Leadership.

Dr. Avik Sarkar is Faculty at Indian School of Business working in the areas of Data, Emerging Technology and Public Policy. At ISB, Dr Sarkar is heading the development of India Data Portal (, one stop portal for analysis and visualization of government data. Dr. Sarkar was the former Head of Data Analytics Cell and Officer on Special Duty (OSD) at NITI Aayog (National Institution for Transforming India Aayog) premier policy think-tank of Government of India. At NITI Aayog, Dr. Sarkar helped in developing roadmaps for use of data, analytics and artificial intelligence for Governance, Policy making across various sectors for India's inclusive growth and led efforts towards setting up the first High Performance Computing based Data Analytics Lab and Energy Modeling Unit at NITI Aayog.

Dr. Jérôme Duberry is a Senior researcher at the Dusan Sidjanski Centre of Excellence in European Studies, Global Studies Institute, University of Geneva, and a Research associate at the Albert Hirschman Center on Democracy, Graduate Institute. His current research activities focus on how artificial intelligence can foster the participation of civil society in policy-making processes at national and international levels.

Nishtha Satyam was appointed as the Deputy Country Representative for UN Women, the entity of the United Nations that is dedicated to working towards Gender Equality and Women's Empowerment, in India in January 2018. As the youngest woman to represent UN Women amongst 193 countries, Nishtha Satyam is an unapologetic feminist, a trained economist with a keen interest in applied macroeconomic and fiscal policy. In her long standing career in the United Nations, she manages the UN Women Office for a geo-politically diverse group of countries including India, Bhutan, Maldives and Sri Lanka. Nishtha has also served as the Private Sector Partnerships Specialist with the Office of the Resident Coordinator of the United Nations and UNDP. Prior to her career with the UN, Nishtha worked with leading firms such as KPMG and American Express as an Economist. Nishtha holds a Master's Degree in International Business from the University of Nottingham, UK and a Bachelors in Economics from Delhi University.

Soenke Ziesche holds a PhD in Natural Sciences from the University of Hamburg, which he received within a Doctoral Program in Artificial Intelligence. He has worked since 2000 for the United Nations in the humanitarian, recovery and sustainable development fields as well as in data and information management. In addition to UN Headquarters in New York he has been posted to Palestine, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Sudan, Libya, where he was temporarily the highest UN representative during the revolution, South Sudan, Bangladesh and Maldives. Currently he is a consultant, mostly for the UN, for disaster information management as well as AI. He has published various peer-reviewed articles about AI safety and ethics and also related to the SDGs. He is based in New Delhi.
